A challenge, Survive a day on RM 5, 4 meals, without home cook food.
.jpg)
This is it. The challenge to kick start the year: Survive an entire day, with 4 meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Supper) on RM5 per person... Seems quite impossible with the prices of things nowadays huh? Well, impossible just makes it more challenging! HAHAHA. That's me, Joel, Jason and Joshua taking it head on.
.jpg)
10 a.m. Head of to the wet market near Prima Setapak. After some scouting, we find the prices of food to be incredulously high! Where have all the 50 cent mee hoon gone? Oh noes!
.jpg)
Prices of fried mee hoon sold in the pasar.
.jpg)
We decide to leave the market, but before that, we walk to the nearby hawker center and ask the chicken rice seller how much would it cost for us to eat just rice, with soup and chili. He offers us a tempting deal of 80cents, but we are on a strict 50cents budget, so we pass.
.jpg)
We move on to Hot Springs market, Jason's backyard.
.jpg)
Lots of food galore!
.jpg)
"Chee Chong Fun" at 40 cents a piece... quite promising. HAHA.
.jpg)
After looking around, we decide that the most affordable breakfast would be simply, a loaf of bread.
.jpg)
Price check, RM 1.20 for one loaf, meaning 30 cents each person if we share, not bad. We make the purchase.
.jpg)
On the way out, Josh asks the man outside if we can use his grill to toast our bread, he politely says no, saying he has to roast more of those sweet dried meats.
.jpg)
Bread on it's own is too boring a breakfast. We decided we need butter. Where else to get butter for free? HAHAHAHA... we ninja our way to the nearest hotel. Hotel Grand Seasons.
.jpg)
Jason the smooth operator waltzes into the hotel restaurant and asks for butter...
.jpg)
and guess what... SUCCESS!!!!!!!!! Absolutely incredible!
.jpg)
Thank you Grand Seasons Hotel for the free three butter packs (notice: no lies of any kind were told during this entire challenge)
.jpg)
Having ninja-ed some butter, we decide that tomato sauce would be good on bread too! On to the nearest Mc Donalds...
.jpg)
Free tomato sauce!
.jpg)
Josh tries to push it by asking the lady at the drive through on the way out for some free coke.
.jpg)
She was rather perplexed by Josh's request, but she politely denied our request. HAHA!
.jpg)
Just before reaching Joshua's house for breakfast, we pop by KFC to ask them if we could get some free Mash Potato sauce, or even Cheesy wedges sauce, but they said no as well, no harm trying. HAHAHA!
.jpg)
With the balance of 20 cents each, we purchase 4 eggs
.jpg)
Mmmm... Half boiled eggs. I guess we cheated a bit here, cuz we took hot water from Josh's house, but then again, we could've just walked out the door and get free hot water from the nearby 7-11, so no much difference. Only after cooking our eggs halfway did we realize our stupidity for not using the proper half boil egg cooker.
.jpg)
Because we couldn't afford to spend money on water, Josh took some tap water to drink.
.jpg)
Our half boil eggs didn't turn out too well, but whatever! haha. With bread and butter, yum.
.jpg)
We move on to lunch at 12 pm. Restoran Ah Seng at Taman Bunga Raya. Where you can buy cheap economy rice, with free soup and chinese tea!
.jpg)
We are allowed one meat and one vege dish, for a sweet deal or RM 2.
.jpg)
Scooping our free soup.
.jpg)
Ah Seng accidentally gave Jason some extra dish, so his Meal came up to RM 2.70. OH OH! our budget is slightly screwed!
.jpg)
After lunch, we head off to church for some rest...
.jpg)
Before helping to rearrange the entire stage. Quite a lot of work mind you.
.jpg)
We are rewarded with Nougat!
.jpg)
This is good stuff.
.jpg)
And before we leave, Uncle Mak gives us some precious 100 plus. YAY!
.jpg)
Wasting some time before dinner.
.jpg)
At 7.30 p.m, we head to our regular fried noodles stall behind Hospital Tawakal. Josh has a chat with the owner and asks if he can cook us a filling meal, for RM 7. He agrees, but then...
.jpg)
We are surprised with a very small portion of fried rice. DISSAPOINTMENT!
.jpg)
I guess the guy misunderstood Joshua... Oh well, whatever. Our hungry stomachs promptly devour the precious morsels.
.jpg)
Clean!
.jpg)
We were still hungry, so we decided to head to Carrefour
.jpg)
Josh asks to try some ice cream...
.jpg)
Free dessert! WAHAHAHA!
.jpg)
We walk around looking for free food samplings...
.jpg)
AHA! jackpot...
.jpg)
Fishballs and fishcakes... yum yum. Actually, they tasted quite terrible, but we were hungry.
.jpg)
Bye bye Carrefour.
.jpg)
Mourning our extremely light dinner and pitiful money balance, we are at a lost at what to do and chill out at my place, then suddenly, we get the call. Our informant tells us that there is free food! We immediately head off to Passion Cafe at 9.00 p.m where we are told for the exchange of our labour for cleaning up the place, we get free Chicken Curry, Fried Rice, Fried popiah and wantan (leftovers from a event buffet)! What a sweet deal!
.jpg)
We reach there at about 930 p.m and immediately rush into the kitchen...
.jpg)
...Greet out informant Sue Ann...
.jpg)
...And rush for the food....
.jpg)
In no time, the fried popiah and wantan is gone. There was overflowing of fried rice and curry chicken though. LOL!
.jpg)
I get to sweeping, but I find the Sofa very tempting
.jpg)
Joel and Jason quickly make themselves useful
.jpg)
Then we see...
.jpg)
...
(Actually, he did help. Haha. Just snapped him while he was lazing around)
.jpg)
We close the day, and the challenge, by drinking our 100 Plus kept since the afternoon. 11.30 pm, mission accomplished.
